Like its ambitious companion novel, Replica, this far-reaching novel by powerhouse bestselling author Lauren Oliver digs deep into questions of how to be a human being in a world where humanity cannot be taken for granted. In the world outside the Haven Institute, Lyra and Caelum are finding it hard to be human—and neither of them knows where they belong or who they can trust. When Caelum leaves without warning to pursue the dream of a place he belongs, Lyra follows him, convinced that together they will hunt down a cure for the illness that’s slowly consuming her mind. But what they uncover is a shocking connection to their past—even as their future seems in danger of collapsing. After discovering the uncomfortable truth about her connection to the Haven Institute, Gemma struggles to return to her normal life. But when she learns that her controlling and powerful father has new plans for Lyra and Caelum, Gemma and her boyfriend, Pete, leave in the middle of the night to warn them of the danger they face. When an untimely accident derails them, they are mistaken for the escaped replicas and seized by strangers hired to capture them. The Haven Institute wasn’t destroyed after all, and now Gemma is the one behind the walls. Lyra’s and Gemma’s stories can be read separately—with either story first—or in alternating chapters, but no matter which way you turn the book, the two distinct stories combine into one breathtaking experience for both heroines and readers alike.

RINGER, was one of my most anticipated books of 2017 and it did not disappoint. Everything that I loved from the first book was there, and way, way more.

I stated it in my review for Replica as well, but I’ll say it again. The way that this is written and the way that this series can be read is so unique and intriguing. You have several options when it comes to reading this one. You either can read it from Lyla’s perspective first, then Gemma’s or vice versa. You can also read it by going back and forth between their sides of the stories- or even a mix of all that!

What keeps surprising me with this series and this author, is how WELL this all works. Something like this could easily become confusing (as you can see by my bad explanation above), but it works perfectly. It really makes you understand the whole “there are two sides to every story.” It feels like the story is coming

After the ending of Replica, I honestly did not have a clue as to where Ringer would take us. There were so many unanswered questions and still so much mystery revolving around Haven.

Ringer was everything I did not expect and everything I could want from a sequel. From beginning to end I was filled with so many emotions, from fear to pain to happiness. I grew to love the characters, Lyra and Gemma so much more as they fought through this entire story. It seems as though everything is against them at certain points, and yet they always continue moving forward.

Though their situations aren’t exactly relatable (unless you’re used to being on the run and know of any human clones), but Gemma and Lyra are exactly the type of girls I love to read about. These are two characters who are put into strange, scary situations and always keep moving forward. They experience of self-doubt, loneliness, and confusion, like most of us do, and yet, they never give up. That’s what made this series so special for me.

Final thoughts?

Ringer was an incredible sequel and ending to a series that I am going to miss so much! The twists, turns, and surprises made this series so unforgettable and such a crazy ride. The only thing I can say I disliked was the fact that this is the last book! *cries* I highly, highly recommend this crazy, fun, and unique duology- from the beautiful writing, to the complex characters, and the intense moments- it was perfection.
