Aurora is the princess and heir to the Pavon kingdom, but she holds a secret that threatens her claim to the throne. For that reason, she must marry Cassius who is a neighboring prince with a lot of magic. While at first he seems like a great match for her, Aurora soon discovers that he's using her to get her throne.
Taking it upon herself, Aurora follows Cassius into a hidden passageway that contains a market. Here, she bumps into Locke who saves her from being discovered by Cassius. When she finds out that Locke is a stormhunter, she decides to go with him because this may be the only way to obtain magic of her own. To hide her identity as the princess, she uses the name Roar and will do anything to prove she can keep up with the hunters.
ROAR is a magical fantasy romance that's unique in the way that the storms are the magic. It's fascinating to see twisters and storms as sources of magic. Roar is a strong character and isn't afraid to stand up for what's right. Even though she's a princess, she's willing to get her hands dirty for the good of her kingdom. Locke is willing to help Roar even though he doesn't know her true identity. There's a budding romance between Roar and Locke and it's perfectly imperfect which makes it seem more realistic and relatable, even in the fantasy setting.
Final Verdict: The novel is told in third person and alternates between Roar, Locke, and Cassius, so the reader gets to see every angle of the story. I would recommend ROAR to fans of fantasy, romance, magic, and royal politics. The characters are relatable and their growth is easy to see. Roar isn't perfect, but she has the mental strength do to anything if she puts her mind to it. Off to start the second!
