Rory the Remarkable Dragon is about Rory who is not like all the other dragons and stands out in the classroom with all the other dragons. Her unique abilities that other dragons don’t have make her stand out and become the most popular student in the class. The principal is suspicious though and is certain there is something off about Rory, will she uncover the truth about this remarkable dragon?

What I Liked: From the minute that I opened this book I just could not stop laughing at all the silly moments. I love that instead of signaling Rory out for being different and not a dragon, this book finds ways in which Rory’s abilities make her unique and popular with the other students. I love the moments in which you think the principal has figured it out, then read the ridiculous thing she comes up with.

The art style of this book also adds to the humorous moments as Rory isn’t even trying to look the part. I love that she stands out in the group of dragons but the story doesn’t focus on this. I appreciate how the author included several deeper messages throughout this book such as focusing on someone’s unique qualities and abilities rather than the things they can not do.

Final Verdict: Rory the Remarkable Dragon will have children laughing as they recognize that Rory is a chicken and not a dragon. They will enjoy the silly moments in which you worry that the principal has figured out Rory’s secret only to find that she goes in a completely different direction than expected.
