What I Loved: It actually took me a minute to warm up to Shaw. At first, I thought she was pretty weak and a little too nice, like easily taken advantage of. But, as the story progressed, and important things and people in her life were on the line, she stood up for herself, showed strength, and handled a very dangerous situation very well. I ended up really liking her. I liked the fact that Rule was open to seeing what was between them. Sure there were moments of that “hot and cold” game I hate so much, and he can be pretty closed off, but he showed more vulnerable moments than I expected him to and I appreciated him for it.
Left Me Wanting More: We get a lot of Rule and his family in this book, but I wish I could’ve seen more of Shaw and her family dynamic. I think things were done well and fine since it wasn’t a main focus of the book, but it would’ve added so much more to her character development if I’d had that. I also couldn’t stand how timid she was around them. Sure, she’s only 20, but the ways she let them and even Gabe control her, it drove me nuts.
Final Verdict: I can easily see Rule’s appeal and I really enjoyed the story. NA fans will love this, for sure.
