Sabriel is the first book in the Abhorsen trilogy, the first of three excellent books.
Sabriel is the story of a girl with the same name. She must travel to the Old Kingdom, when her father: The Charter-Mage Abhorsen doesn't show up for their special meetings. She is accompnied by Mogget, and touchstone on a journey to learn the truth and to find her father. A amazing book set in a world apart.

Follow Sabriel through unknown dangers and dead cities. Read from a narrators point of view, and learn all the wonderful and terrible things this book has to teach. Sabriel is a necromancers daughter, who survives on friendship, love, and a book. She must free her fathers spirit and defeat a horrible creature.
Sabriel is a fantastic fantasy. There is lots of action, and mystery. It is so good you will not want to eat or sleep, just read. I t caught my interest two chapters in. Thank you Garth Nix.

This book is about a girl named Sabriel who is the daughter of an Abhorsen, which is a necromacer only instead of the usual selfish purposes of most, sets out to keep the dead down..instead of raising them.
Sabriel is away at a bording school but when she gets the bells of an Abhorsen she has no choice but to go and search for her father.
During her trip she encounters the Abhorsen's servent, the bells, the book of the dead, evil necromacers and a statue that comes to life.
This book is really good and everyone who enjoys fantasy will enjoy reading about it.

Garth Nix has done a great job writing this great book. Sabirel must follow her father, the Abhorsen, into the afterlife after he disappears. There she finds that her father can't accompany her back home. He tells her that she must find the last Prince of the Old Kingdom and restore order before a powerful creature can come to power. I really liked this book.

Garth Nix has been able to create a magical world where magic reings and where the dead are able to come back to life, and at the same time has related it to our own world quite smoothly and efficietly. Sabriel is not your everyday 14 year-old heroine you see in other books, she is 18 and knows herself better than you archetypal heroine. The characters are so vivid you can almost feel what they feel. This is truly a great book who any fantasy lover will enjoy.

Its awesome how I was captured into this book. The beginning, because I've been used to little romantic fantasy books like DOTM, I was kind of just going along, thinking this is ok, almost like LoTR. But very soon, maybe because of the way I was able to be in the setting, (which is amazing)or some other amazing element of Nix's storytelling (which didn't feel as much as a story as something going in you're day to day life), I couldn't stop reading. I like Nix's frank nature of what was going on the character's thought, that made you feel like you were thinking them too. I REALLY LOVE THIS BOOK!Anyone (even me) can fall in love with this book!! :)

In the land of the Old Kingdom, north of Ancelstierre, dwells a powerful and ancient family, known as the Abhorsens...
This is it, I say. This is the story that shattered all of my normal standards and created new ones. I first read it because, like any teenager, I saw the cover of the book and loved it. I didn't let the rather mundane prologue turn me off, and I'm very glad I didn't. It's the beginning of an epic trilogy that might only be surpassed by Lord of the Rings. Garth Nix, a relatively new author at this time, really knows his stuff.
Mixing reality with believable fantasy, he brings to us the story of the young Sabriel Abhorsen whose family is one of the most respected in the Old Kingdom. They exist mainly to bind the dead that are roused by evil necromancers, and never abuse their powers.
It starts in Ancelsteirre where Sabriel is just about to graduate from a rather normal boarding school. But just north of this land lies one full of Magic and danger. Here is her country of origin and the two are separated by a magical wall made to keep the Dead out of the peaceful nation of Ancelstierre.
When her father goes missing, Sabriel must go to the Old Kingdom to save him, encountering many dangers on the way. This isn't by any means your average story about a heroine, and is my favourite.
From the prologue about the birth of Sabriel, to the twisted end, this book will have you caught in the pages and hanging on to every last word. Garth Nix is truly one of the greatest modern writers there are. His books are a work of pure genius.
