“All aboard our little boat!

We’ll sail all night.

Let’s see where we float!”

Full speed ahead as two siblings sail off for dreamland! Before these two can settle down under the covers, they cruise off onto the Arctic Ocean to bid goodnight to narwhals and guillemots, minkes and belugas. They sail past clouds shaped like polar bears and marvel at the multitudes of stars that twinkle between them. Before dawn pulls them back to their own cozy bedroom, they snack with the seals on the bow of their ship, waving goodbye as from dreamland to daytime they go.

Sea Snooze is a story about two children who are going to bed and we get to go along on a journey through the ocean with them as they say goodnight to the different sea animals that they encounter.

What I liked: I am a fan of the ocean and all sea animals so when I saw the cover of this book it instantly caught my attention. I am delighted that I decided to read it and it is one that I will continue to visit time after time.

The illustrations in this book make it come alive as you follow along this journey with the children through the Arctic Ocean and see how they view the animals there. I love how this book captures a child’s imagination and incorporates realistic depictions of animals and food.

I appreciated the changing colors of the font creating a contrast between the text and the background images. I also appreciated that the author included a pronunciation guide at the closing of the book and an explanation for what the two Inuktitut words in the book mean. I love that the author included a link for more resources on Inuktitut words and how to pronounce them.

Final Verdict: Sea Snooze is a fun bedtime story that introduces children to various animals in the Arctic Ocean. This is a great book to read to children ages 3 and up especially those who have an interest in the ocean.
