A bullied Russian dwarf at the turn of the 20th century learns to fight from a Chinese martial arts master.

Sergei Vox only wanted a normal life: to be like everyone else, to be loved by his family and help them tend the land and pay their rent. That was not to be.

Laughed at by the other children in his small Ural Mountain community, rejected by his father and constantly beaten by town bullies, he runs away and heads east with an ambitious goal: to learn how to fight and make his father proud. A strange man directs him to the Russian town of Omsk, where Sergei meets The Master, a renowned martial artist that reluctantly trains him to compete in the underground fighting circuits throughout Asia.

However, no matter how hard he works or what he accomplishes, nothing can prepare him for his eventual return home, where he discovers that no one can escape the past.

A heart-pounding, coming of age adventure for readers of all ages, SERGEI weaves the emotional tale of a young boy that refuses to give up on his dreams, with timeless life-parables, ancient martial arts lessons, epic battles, tragedy, loss, broken hearts, and ultimately redemption.

SERGEI is the first stand-alone novel in a unique, four-book series called Legendary Masters about three fighters on their way to an otherworldly fighting competition.

Sergei took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride with plot twists around every corner. A heartwarming story about a Russian dwarf who is bullied and just wants to be able to defend himself, Sergei is a determined character with many struggles in his path. I could not put it down, and found myself reading it every break I had- and I'm a very picky reader! I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone. Even if you wouldn't normally pick up a book about this subject matter, the theme has universal appeal and anyone could enjoy it.
Good Points

Also loved the writing of the fight scenes- very unique style!
Setting is well researched and I felt like I was there when reading.
