America’s most famous pop star flees the spotlight to recover from her latest break-up in Maine—only to fall for a local boy and be faced with an impossible choice at the end of the summer: her new guy, or her music. Multiplatinum pop icon Lily Ross’s biggest hits and biggest heartbreaks (because they are one and the same): 1. AGONY. (That feeling when her ex ripped her heart out of her chest and she never saw it coming.) 2. GHOSTS. (Because even famous people are ghosted by guys sometimes. And it sucks just as much.) 3. ONCE BITTEN. (As in: twice shy. Also, she’s never dating an actor or a musician ever again.) But this summer’s going to be different. After getting her heart shattered, Lily is taking herself out of the spotlight and heading to a small island in middle-of-nowhere Maine with her closest friends. She has three months until her fall tour starts-three months to focus on herself, her music, her new album. Anything but guys. That is . . . until Lily meets sweet, down-to-earth local Noel Bradley, who is so different from anyone she’s ever dated. Suddenly, Lily’s “summer of me” takes an unexpected turn, and she finds herself falling deeper and harder than ever before. But Noel isn’t interested in the limelight. She loves Noel-but she loves her fans, too. And come August, she may be forced to choose.

Sing a refreshing, light, and short contemporary that will melt the hearts of its readers. In only 279 pages, the author is able to provide a well-developed character who grows more with each page. Lily Ross, the main character is anything but normal, but somehow is easily relatable and lovable.

Though this is a story about the life of a pop star, we were given some insight into the life that isn’t glamourous. Lily was faced all types of emotions ranging from frustration to anger to confusion because of how her fame effected her as well as her loved ones.

Sing tells the story of a pop star who is facing the harsher side of fame. With horrible stories coming out surrounding her latest breakup, Lily feels lonely, lost, and disappointed with herself. She is facing a million emotions at a time, all while feeling like she isn’t in control of her life anymore. So, she decides to take time off from everything and head to the most secluded place she can find.

In Maine she is able to find out the type of person she is when she isn’t in a relationship. It seems realistic to me that someone who is feeling so upset would need to take time off from it all. Along with her friends and time to think, she was able to truly make sense of everything in her life. I found Lily to be extremely relatable and likable because of her actions. Lily was flawed and maybe didn’t always make the best decisions, but it simply made her more realistic.

The secondary characters also helped to make this story more enjoyable. Tess and Maya were her ultimate support system who also brought humor to the story. Positive and strong friendships can sometimes be missing in books like these and I absolutely loved Lily’s friends! And of course, Noah.

Noah blushed excessively, was completely lovable, and was a perfect love interest for Lily. He was kind, real, and never held back from Lily. Lily was going through so much, but Noah was the most honest person in her life. I definitely enjoyed their sweet moments together and even though the romance started quicker than I usually like, I found myself rooting for them.

I found that there was very little to critique about this book, although I felt that if it had been longer than maybe certain things would’ve played out differently- a slower-burning romance, more in depth descriptions about certain events, and a longer conclusion. So overall, I felt that this would a read I could easily recommend to anyone because of how light, short, and sweet it was. It is the perfect summer / beach / poolside read!
