This book is one of the most enchanting stories I have read during my lifetime. I am not sure what it was exactly that made me love this story so much. Perhaps it was the bear, the girls, the cottage, or perhaps it was the finding of oneself as the girls ventured off into the woods every day in search of their father who had gone missing.
The artistry in the book is one of a kind. It is beautiful and enchanting with pine cones, paintings, in soft tones allowing the reader to see themselves in the middle of the forest with the girls. Snow & Rose find challenges in the forest and together battle forces that would easily frighten most little girls but they manage to do it all in hopes of being reunited with their father whom local hunters believe to be dead.
The hunters are searching for the bear and hope to kill it as they believe it is responsible for all of the missing people and animals nearby. This book is a the perfect book for late elementary or early middle school readers who enjoy fairy tales and fantasy. What made me pick up the book and read it was the tag line.... "Snow and Rose didn't know they were in a fairy tale. People never do."
