Sucks to Be Me: The All-True Confessions of Mina Hamilton, Teen Vampire (maybe) (Sucks to Be Me #1)
User reviews
This was a refreshing take on the whole "teen vampire" genre. After an overload of Twilight, it was nice to find a protagonist with a sense of humor. Mina's parents are vampires, and she's known about them for years . . . but the vampire council hasn't known about her. She's suddenly faced with the choice of whether she wants to become one. Since it's written by ya books central's very own book goddess, I have to say good job. Everyone 13 and up should read this book.
"My parents are trying to ruin my life. Oh yeah, I know that every teenager says that, but I really mean it. They want me dead. Or, actually, undead."
Sucks to Be Me, by Kimberley Pauley, was an excellent and engaging read. From the eleventh sentence - "He wouldn't know (or care) who Stephanie Meyers was if she came up and bit him." - you know this isn't just another Twilight spin off.
Though I found the plot somewhat less action-packed than I usually like, this book is original and funny. I enjoyed it immensely. The book is told in first-person limited, from the point of view of Mina - a girl whose parents are vampires. She is being forced to decide whether or not to become a vampire. She even has to take lessons and vampires and "turning" - the act of becoming a vampire.
There's also plenty of romance in this book as Mina tries to get a date for the prom and learns that looks aren't everything. In addition, this book has several powerful meanings about learning and discovering who you are and who you're meant to be.
Sarcastic, funny, fast-paced, surprising, and well written, Sucks to Be Me is a wonderful book with something for everybody.
This is one of the first vampire books I've read that's actually funny. Mina Hamilton is only sixteen years old and she has to make the biggest decision of her life: whether to become a vampire like her parents, or live a human life with all her friends. Either way, it's a lose-lose situation: become a vampire, lose her friends ; stay human, lose her family. Author Kimberly Pauley makes a story with a serious plot humorous--throwing prom and a crush (or two, or three...) into the mix. I loved this book and I'm praying for a sequel!
Mina is a normal girl living with her vampire parents, one day the vampire counsil finds out Mina is a human girl living in a house full of vampies they tell her she has to take vampire classes and decide if she wants to become a vampire
This book was a funny light read it was so enjoyable. The book was mostly a comedy
and I loved it!
If loved Twilight than you`ll like this book.Takes you into Mina`s life, totally normal except for the fact that her parents are vampires. Now she must attend a class where she meets a boy who gets her.Love is not the only thing that will keep you glued to the book, the funny true or false statements will have you laughing out loud.
Mia has parents who seem aboslutely normal on the outside, but inside, they're vampires. In trying to giev Mia a life of normalacy, they hide from everything vampire. They want Mia to become a vampire so that they didn't have to hide anything. She has to make the choice, but for now, she has to go to vampire classes with kids that have the same choice to make. Along with everything in a teenage life, all the drama, this comedy book about vampires is a very goood read.
sucks to be me is a good story about a undead girl, which i found funny in some parts. I think all girls should read is because yes she thinks her parents are weird but every teen girl think there parents are weird. i like the book specaily senses its about vampires.
i have to say that this book was funny. most books i read aren't. it was a little predictable and quite obvious but for the most part i couldn't complain. the main character mina was easy to relate to and showed me and i suppose most poeple that yeah families can be touchy and sometimes crazy but in the end they mean well. i was in love with george from the beginning and couldn't stop reading the book until i knew that he ended up hapy however the ending shocked me a bit. it's an easy and worthwhile read for twilight fan looking for a laugh.
The book Sucks to Be Me is a book that captures how there is always a way to solve a big problem. Even deciding weather or not you want to be immortal(well sorta immortal)or not. Shes got all that going on plus he boy troubles and not being able to tell your best friend(who you tell everything to)about it all.
Poor Mina! To have to make a life altering choice at such a young age. Heck I was in my 20's & still did not know what I wanted to be when I grew up. ;)
This is a great twist on the whole vampire genre. I love the little footnotes by Mina at the start of each chapter, & would love to see a list of all of the *thought to be true vampire myths* and all of the *real* vampire truths.
Reading this book as an older person, I was thrown into my teen years (ahh the memories). Thats when I knew my students would love this one.
It is now on the shelf in my room for the students to check out...I just hope they bring it back!
There is so much I want to say (wow not 1, not 2, but 3 hotties) but I just don't want to give anything away! I can tell you that this one is a keeper!
