SUPREMACY

Supremacy has me incredibly torn! On the one hand, I want to love it because the author built an intriguing society and I flipped pages almost non-stop, but on the other, I feel that this book needed a bit more for me to fully enjoy the story.

What I Liked:

Supremacy has an interesting secret society that is way more advanced than what we consider normal. They have better technology, a strict and somewhat functional social organization, plus a higher influence/understanding over Earth. The author barely scratches the surface on what/how things work in here, but I loved what we get in this first installment because it is enough to intrigue and makes you want to know MORE.

The dual perspective from the male and female leads is handled quite well. Each POV flows effortlessly back and forth within each chapter and it wasn't hard at all to follow the story. I liked this far better than if it had been told from only one POV.

Despite certain personality issues with the male lead, I'm quite smitten with Lucas. I love that he is Spanish and that he deeply cares for Kate. He has a good heart and he's a good person overall, but he is not entirely a stable person. However, this is a struggle the character is working hard on and us readers can expect character growth in the following installment.

I also liked Kate. She is a bright 17 year old girl with an incredible talent and I loved her compassion for animals. This is something I can relate to since I used to do that all the time when I was younger.

What Left Me Wanting More:

I'm the kind of reader that deeply cares about the smallest of details and while I was reading Supremacy I came across several things that didn't add up or confused me. Mostly consistency issues and contradicting character traits.

I like the romance and I do like Kate and Lucas as a couple, but I wish their relationship didn't fall into the insta-love category. It went too fast for my liking in the beginning. I'm also a bit nervous on how it borders into a problematic and unhealthy relationship due to Lucas' situation. It's understandable, yet it still doesn't make it right. Hopefully things get better in the sequel!

Final Verdict:

While this book may not have been the perfect read I was hoping for, Supremacy still is a good start to a promising paranormal romance series and I will be on the lookout for its sequel.
