This story takes place in the world of birds; particularly that of the eagles, of which Dandelion is the main character, a young "valley eaglet," which in the eagle kingdom, is a poor, peasant eagle of no importance. She ends up on Sword Mountain, living amongst the elite eagles, who are so caught up in tradition and their own self-importance that they fail to see the impending uprising of other birds within their midst.

This book was well-suited for younger middle-grade readers; however, I could not fully get into it. The plot, although it had some strong points, moved along so quickly that once one plot development was introduced it seemed to be jumping right into the next. Dandelion is an inspirational character and I enjoyed reading, from her perspective, her journey from a shy, afraid little eaglet into an eaglet of significance and valor. The book also has a great collection of "new" words for younger readers. In spite of the book's good qualities I am sad to say it did not enthrall me. Perhaps for bird lovers this book would be a great addition to a fantasy library.
