Most kids have a little bit of the adventurer in them. If youre planning any trips to a national park (especially one of the ones specifically covered in the book), Teddys Travels is a nice little book to take with them.
The book bills itself as a personal guidebook, a scrapbook, and a journal. Narrated by Teddy (aka Tedrick De Bear), the tone is friendly and a little cutesy, but will likely highly appeal to the target age group (8 to 12).
The book is divided into regions of the country to make it easier to find the national park you are visiting. My only complaint (and theres really no way around it; not without making this a MUCH larger book) is that only a fraction (i.e. Teddys favorites) of the parks are included. That said, the parks that are covered some of the biggest ones.
Youll find lots of tidbits of information on the parks and lots of stuff to engage young readers, like teaser quizzes and photos. And, true to the promise on the cover, the book has built-in spots for all your souvenirs from the parks (though the author definitely advises you on what are ok things to take i.e. leave a place as you found it, but take lots of pictures).
Recommended for readers aged 8 and up, though younger readers could appreciate the book with help from an adult. Think of it as a colorful vacation scrapbook that teaches youngsters at the same time.
