Ghost stories are my favorite kind of stories. I think I've read every good one out there, and I'm glad I can add Texas Gothic to my list of great ghosty-reads!
The main character, Amy Goodnight, is such a likable character. The opening line of the book alone is hilarious and draws you in so that you've read the first chapter even if you weren't meaning to (I got the book, opened it, and didn't stop until the first three chapters were done. And I wasn't even "reading" the book yet!).
I really liked the relationship between Amy, her sister Phin, her eccentricities and humorous-un-humor, and the hot cowboy, Ben. He matches Amy snark-for-snark, and their meeting was one of the most memorable I've ever read.
Aside from the ghosts, the book is really a mystery novel (um, Sierra, aren't ghosts mysterious? Yes, they are, self. Shut up, I'm trying to review, here!). I really liked how the author had really two or three different things going on at once. If the main character wasn't falling in bat crap, she was being scared to death by a ghosty at the edge of her bed. The action is non-stop.
I loved the ending; how the author left Amy and Ben's relationship kind of untied. The closing lines are perfect, I believe. I also loved how the storyline is kind of different than what you are led to believe (I guessed it, but I've been reading YA forever!). It's like watching a really good ghost-movie. (Wow, that was cheesy.)
Oh, and because I'm such a judger, the cover definitely adds to the mystique of the novel. The title alone has to make you want to read, then the smokey-cover just makes you think, I NEED THIS. Loved it!
