What if there was a 13th zodiac sign?

You're no longer Sagittarius, but Ophiuchus, the healer, the 13th sign.

Your personality has changed. So has your mom's and your best friend's.

What about the rest of the world?

What if you were the one who accidentally unlocked the 13th sign, causing this world-altering change, and infuriating the other 12 signs?

In this book by Kristin O'Donnell Tubb, Jalen did it, and now she must use every ounce of her strength and cunning to send the signs back where they belong. Lives, including her own, depend upon it.

At the beginning of THE 13TH SIGN, Jalen doesn't believe in astrology's impact on human's lives; however, she's forced to reassess that belief when she unwittingly unlocks the 13th sign of the zodiac, Ophiuchus, and causes the personalities of everyone to change. Those changes will become permanent unless Jalen--with the help of two friends and a few other interested parties--wins challenges against the other 12 signs of the zodiac to send them back to the heavens where they belong.

Kristin O'Donnell Tubb has written a fast-paced middle grades adventure that will appeal to both boys and girls. There's so much to like about this book: Jalen is a smart heroine, and Tubb includes positive lessons that are sprinkled throughout the tale with such subtlety, young readers may not know they're learning anything as they read. The action scenes are continuous and written well, and the character descriptions are vivid.

Finally, I've been known to buy a book only for the cover in the past, and this one is gorgeous!

Tubb does a great job with an interesting topic, and middle school readers should be enthralled with the book.
