If you want a great book full of humor and adventure for reluctant boy (or girl) readers, youve just found it. Chance Fortune (real name: Joshua Blevins) has wanted to be a superhero since he was just a little kid. Sure, every kid wants to be a superhero&but how many of them actually go out and find a mentor (the retired but still-got-it Captain Fearless) and train every single day for the chance?

But all that training seems to be in vain when fourteen-year-old Josh is rejected by the Burlington Academy because hes just a plain old everyday human kid without any superpowers (either from genetic mutation or, you know, radioactive spider bites, that kind of thing). Josh is devastated but Captain Fearless comes up with a plan.

He gets Josh into the Academy under a false name Chance Fortune with an un-provable superpower of good luck. Now its up to Josh to put his skills to the test. Will he have what it takes to keep up with kids who are&literally&demi-gods?

All students at the Academy compete in teams against each other as preparation for doing battle in the real world after graduation. Soon, Chances team, The Outlaws, is on the move and on top (especially after hes elected captain). Even though they might seem a bit of a misfit crew on the outside, their skills complement each other and soon they are a well-oiled machine.

Of course, every school has its bullies and the Academy is no exception. Superion, true to his name, thinks of himself as a truly superior superhero, but the truth is hes a big bully with more power than he should have. And hes got it in big time for Chance.

If all of that drama werent enough to keep you on your toes, theres also a mysterious presence at the school that slowly seems to be taking control. Ultimately, it will be up to Chance and his team to really save the day when even the adult superheroes fail.

This is Shane Berryhills first book and Im sure it wont be the last. Im also sure Ill be trying to wrangle a copy of the next Chance Fortune book. Goodness knows the end of this one is quite the cliffhanger&Recommended highly for readers aged 10 to 12 and up.
