THE BIG SLIDE is a sweet picture book about bravery, friendship, and trying something new. Little Pup goes to the playground with his mother every day, and though he wants to try the big slide, he is too afraid. His mother reassures him, and Little Pup practices, but he still is not sure about using the big slide. When he is playing with his friend Little Duck, he learns that Little Duck has also been afraid of the big slide. They decide to give it a try together, and though he is scared Little Pup goes down the slide - and loves it!

What I loved: This is a sweet story about trying something new, facing your fears, and friendship. Little Pup really wants to go down the slide, but he does not feel brave enough to take it - he works his way closer and closer and practices where he can. His persistence and patience in moving closer shows children how they can approach obstacles. The helpful messages around friendship and supporting others in reaching their goals are also really great for young children making new friends.

The amount of text on each page is brief, which is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. Colorful illustrations that capture the expressive characters are also great for this age group. Add that to the themes which will resonate for young readers, and this is well-suited to the intended audience.

Final verdict: THE BIG SLIDE is a cute picture book about facing your fears, supporting your friends, and working towards your goals that will resonate with toddlers and preschoolers.
