What I Loved:
After an almost three year wait for the final book in this series, I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy! Kate, Michael, and Emma captured my heart in the first two novels, and I was so excited to see how their story would play out.
What I love so much about this series is how it is, above all, a story about family. Kate, Michael, and Emma love each other so much that they're willing to sacrifice anything to keep each other safe. It's been interesting to see how they both grow together and grow separately over the course of the series. They've had to face many challenges, together and apart, and they draw strength from each other no matter what happens. Their bond is just that strong.
I also loved the world-building of this series and we get to see some pretty awesome magical sites in this book. From the giant city to the world of the dead, the author makes the reader want to jump into the book and visit these places too.
Everything is tied up at the end of the novel, which I think fans of the series will appreciate. I enjoyed the realistic nature of the ending. Just because things are tied up doesn't mean it will be easy going from then on. The siblings have experienced terrifying situations and unbearable heartbreak and it won't be easy to move on.
The Final Verdict:
THE BLACK RECKONING is a highly satisfying conclusion to a magical series that was well worth the wait.
