I adored the Black Stallion series as a girl. It's clear the author knows, understands, and loves horses. Reading The Black Stallion is like having a front row seat to a life most of us will never have. Horses, stables, race tracks, training regimes ... all the ins and outs of daily life when you own a race horse. What makes this story even more magical is that the horse is Black, a barely tamed wild stallion who only loves one boy. The stakes at the race are high, the story is compelling, and the relationship between the boy and his horse is heartwarming. A fabulous start to a compelling series.
