The Blue Butterfly of Cochin is the story of the ancient Jewish Indian community's mass immigration to Israel in the 1950s. We follow Leah as she struggles to come to terms with leaving her beloved India and moving to the newly-formed country of Israel. Accompanied by a magical butterfly and through dream-like illustrations, both Leah and the reader, are transported from the lush Indian coastline to the awesome beauty of the Israeli desert.

Thank You to YABC, Kalaniot Books, and Myrick Marketing & Media for the opportunity to read and review this book.
What I Loved:
The illustrations are lush and glorious. Readers will follow Leah as she leaves her beloved Jewish village in India to live in the newly-formed country of Israel, reassured by a blue butterfly. She leaves old friends and meets new ones, learning the value of giving a new way of life a chance to thrive.
What Left Me Wanting More:
The writing was nice but fell short of matching the feel of the illustrations.
Final Verdict:
This is a great book for children who are learning about the Jewish migration to Israel in the 1950s, or who are struggling with a move to a different home. It will also help grow empathy for children who have a peer who has recently moved.
