What I liked:
The Ivory Key Duology is a sibling tale and not about two but 4 of them who are determined to try and save each other or uncover something buried in the past. There is a lot of political intrigue, sibling issues, buried secrets, and a unique magic system. The siblings and their relationships with each other make this series. They each have their journey to travel but can also reconnect as a family. The author did a great job portraying family dynamics in troubled times.
Final Verdict:
Hiding history never solves problems. The mistakes of the past are best avoided by teaching it truthfully. A key theme in this duology is buried history and secrets which never work out. If the past had been revealed instead of hidden, then the siblings of this tale would not have had to go to extreme lengths to save the world.
