Review Detail

This was actually a pretty interesting story. At first I really wasn't sure how it was going to go so I was curious from the beginning. The beginning of the book though was a little slow. It took me a little bit to get into the story but once it started to really develop, the pacing picked up very quickly. Each sequence was a little monotonous but still kept me engaged. This book really picks up halfway through as events really started to unfold. I did find the story unique and perfect for the age group it is intended for. This is definitely a fun story and really dives into the good versus evil.

The characters were definitely interesting for this book. Typically characters go from evil to good but it was different in this case. I really liked that and the author did a great job turning Philip from an angel to a devil. Each depiction of Hell's creatures were great as well. The detail was just enough to really get the whole image without overwhelming the reader. Each of the sider characters fit perfectly into this story and I liked how some of Philip's goodness rubbed off on these evil beings. While some of the actions the characters did were a little obvious, it was still really easy to connect with them - even the Devil himself.

Final Thoughts
The Devil's Apprentice by Kenneth B. Anderson was a fun read. I really liked the uniqueness of this story and each of the turns it took. While the beginning was a little slow, it picked up rather quickly and kept my engagement. The characters were fantastic for this book. Each one was very well written and I really enjoyed seeing Philips influenced Hell's monsters, and how he was influenced by them as well. I highly recommend this book for those in the age group it is intended for, but also for anyone else who is looking for a quick, fun read about an honest good boy who is mistakenly taken to Hell to become the next Devil.
