Review Detail

What I Liked:
The writing was great and it was really easy to get invested in the characters. The plot was easy to follow and engaging. Our MC, Fay, goes to spend the summer with her cousin and her family. Her time there touches on a lot of things that teens may experience at some point: alcoholism, domestic abuse, divorce, among others. Fay’s journey throughout the summer made me remember what it was like to be young and in love. Malcolm was very sweet and the perfect hero. The way he helps Fay through the things that she goes through is perfect and will make you love him even more.

What I Didn’t Like:
The book was a little heavy, there was a lot going on in this small town and within this family! Sometimes its nice to take a break from the usual types of books I read and read something more real, and this book hit that mark. Fay was indecisive in the beginning when she had to make the decisions about whether she should do what her uncle wanted her to do, or what she wanted to do, but she eventually learned to stand on her own two feet. So while this was somewhat frustrating, it was part of her growth throughout the book.

The Final Verdict:
The plot was interesting, and the characters were likable and relatable. The pace was good and it was hard to put down. I would recommend this book for those who like contemporary stories and sweet romances.
