The Fairy Tale Fan Club : Legendary Letters collected by C. C. Cecily is a hilariously written book by Richard Ayoade that shares letters between readers and their favorite fairy tale characters.
What I Liked: As a child, I often wondered what happened to fairy tale characters after they lived happily ever after. These witty and hilarious letters give you insight into the characters' lives and what happened to them after the story was told. It was delightful to hear from the Emperor in The Emperor's New Clothes about how he gets some fan letters in invisible ink or Humpty Dumpty, who answers the question, "Is he really an egg?" Among my favorite sets of letters were those from Hansel and Gretal, whose evil stepmother had my son and I laughing out loud. There were illustrations scattered throughout the book to break up the letters, and I found them just as funny as the written parts.
What Left Me Wanting More: I very much enjoyed the darker humor, but I can see that this may pose a problem for some families who may think it's inappropriate for young readers.
The Fairy Tale Fan Club : Legendary Letters collected by C. C. Cecily is a smart and laugh out loud funny book that will appeal to fairy tale lovers.
