Peter's life isn't going well. His dad is always too busy to pay him any attention and his mom lives half way around the world for her job in Hollywood. When he's taken to spend his birthday weekend with the Dryer family instead of the promised trip with his dad, his life seems at a record low.

He visits Dr. Dryer's office with the Dryer's daughter Kate, and they are mysteriously transported back in time to the year 1763. From then on the story switches view points between Peter and Kate's adventures as well as their parents' attempts to figure out what became of their children. The characters are well-drawn and interesting and the plot is both original and action-packed. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a good fantasy or adventure story.

Please note that it does contain some very mild swearing. My only other complaint is the cliffhanger ending which left me frustrated but eager for more. I will wait breathlessly for its sequel, The Tar Man, which comes out next year!
