The Haunting of Sunshine Girl is an intriguing novel capturing ghosts and the other world in a perfectly blended paranormal reality. Teeming with spirits, demons, and a species with powers to help the lost find peace, this is a novel you won't want to stay away from.
Sunshine just moved to a new home and now she's being haunted. The new guy at school, Nolan, is cute and wears old fashioned clothes kind of like her, her art teacher is super weird, and her new school doesn't have a dark room for developing photos. Mix all of these together and you have a home sick teenager and a whole lot of trouble. A team forms (Sunshine and Nolan), hunting for answers about the giggling little girl who just wants to play. The closer they get to answers however, the more Sunshine's mom and those around them are affected.
Sunshine is a strange girl, a lover of retro styles who has never fit in and never will. She doesn't care what others think, she uses saying such as "My Golly!", and she has trouble accepting things that are otherworldly. It's safe to say that she was feeling fairly unhinged as the hauntings continued, and she remained sane because she had a partner. She was slightly annoying, she claimed to care about everyone but it seemed like she only cared about herself (get the ghost to stop haunting her). She says she's not a crier but she cried a fair bit, and she didn't do much for herself, she left that to Nolan.
Nolan is kind and compassionate, but lonely and he likes to wear his dead grandfather's leather jacket. Quickly becoming a part of Sunshine's life, he is introduced to a world he never thought truly possible. He does research for Sunshine, tries his best to reassure and protect her as well as making sure she ha someone to talk to. They quickly become close friends. He risks his life for her and never strays far from her side. It is enjoyable to read about their time together.
Overall, this is an interesting start to the trilogy and it holds a lot of promise.
