Ive been avoiding reading Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy for the longest time. Why? I dont know, but what a mistake! It is a GREAT book, from start to finish. I know its old and most of you know about it already, but every now and then its good to remind you of an older book.

Rather than give you a summary of the book, Ill tell you a little about the beginning. One Thursday Arthur Dent wakes up to find bulldozers in front of his house, ready to demolish it. Previously unaware of this event, Arthur did the only thing a sane person would dohe lay down in front of the bulldozers to prevent their advance. His friend, Ford Prefect, came along and noticed Arthur lying in front of the bulldozer. Amongst the many things Arthur didnt know were these two things. One: Ford is an alien. In actuality, he is a writer for the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, sort of like a travel guide to the galaxy. Two: it wouldnt matter one little fig whether or not Arthurs house is demolished because in 12 minutes the earth would be demolished by Vogons, who are just as evil as their name sounds.

By a stroke of luck, Ford and Arthur were able to save themselves by hitching a ride on the Vogon spaceship, thus starting their unbelievable, hysterical intergalactic voyage. Along the way they meet Zaphod Beeblebrox who has two heads and steals the Heart of Gold, Magratheans who have been basically hibernating for 5 million years, and Dentrassis who are the cooks on Vogon spaceships, hate the Vogons and will do anything to annoy them. There are intergalactic battles, subtle occurrences that have humongous impacts, and strange aliens.

You can read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy for the pure adventure, for the laughs, for the commentary on life or all of the above. For instance, did you know that humans are only the third most intelligent life form on earth? Ha! I thought not! But the important thing is that you read it. You must read it. It should be required reading for everyone. It is that good! So immerse yourself in intergalactic travel and have a blast.
