I love The Hunger Games, but this book is so ridiculous you can't be offended by it.

First off, I must say, I have read the first two books (in the real series), and I have also read Nightlight, a parody also written by The Harvard Lampoon. I believe The Hunger Games is a good series, but I'm not a die-hard fan.

There a couple of things you must know about The Hunger Pains before you read. The names were probably the funniest part of the book. Katniss (or Kantkiss as she is in the book) is painfully stupid. It's kind of humoring at first, and then it just becomes too much. The plot follows the original, but has some interesting twists and turns (and by interesting I mean, painful).

I didn't buy this book, but rather I waited on a list to check it out at my library. If I had spent actual money on this book, I would have been extremely upset. If I had spent Monopoly money on this book, I still would have been mad.

The Hunger Pains: A Parody is one of the most funny books I have ever read. Its a parody starring Kantkiss Neverclean. Everything in it is so stupid which makes it even funnier. Kantkiss is such an idiot and but her muck-ups make for a good reality television show. It was kinda funny how this book was a parody of The Hunger Games, but it went a bit fast and was slightly confusing.

When Kantkiss Neverclean replaces her sister as a contestant on the Hunger Games—the second-highest-rated reality TV show in Peaceland, behind Extreme Home Makeover—she has no idea what to expect. Having lived her entire life in the telemarketing district’s worst neighborhood, the Crack, Kantkiss feels unprepared to fight to the death while simultaneously winking and looking adorable for the cameras. But when her survival rests on choosing between the dreamy hunk from home, Carol Handsomestein, or the doughy klutz, Pita Malarkey, Kantkiss discovers that the toughest conflicts may not be found on the battlefield but in her own heart . . . which is unfortunately on a battlefield.

The characters are so stupid but very different from The Hunger Games. This book is filled with suspense, foolish romance, gratuitous violence and apathetic adults. The Hunger Pains is a funny story about one girl;s battle for survival and her hope for love. I recommend it to 12+ who just want a good laugh.
