The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey #3)

I think that this must of been the best book of this series. I feel the reasons why is that Meghan finally got more useful as she managed to learn how to use a sword, so she did not just sit on the sidelines. I also feel that Ash's and her relationship became more real as they both finally opened up and Meghan was not obsessing over Ash as much.

I think that the last two books have been a bit unfair to poor old Puck. He was rejected by Meghan and his feelings were crushed as he was rejected in a very harsh way. He then was bossed around by Meghan after their fight, and he only gave in for the hope of that one day she may love him more than a best friend. I think that this though adds up in Puck's favour, in the terms of the reader's eyes. Puck is a fun lovable character that cracks jokes even in the darkest times, I think he may be the true light in this book.

The love between Ash and Meghan had become more sensible and real in this book, as they did not take such big risks for each other (excluding for Ash fighting for Meghan). It strengthened so it was not more of a teen love and more like they were older.

This book was more exciting and not as stupid as the rest. I think that some of the characters have small flaws that need to be fixed, but other than that, this book is pretty good. I cannot wait to see what the Iron Knight will be like.

I love this book! It is definitely the best in the series (so far anyway). I stayed up pretty much all night to read it, even though I had school the next day, and it was worth it. Definitely.

I will admit though, that I still like Puck better than Ash. I mean, obviously, I saw it coming from book one, that Meghan and Ash were going to be together, but I still liked Puck better. I mean, it was kind of weird, with Ash being all "You are my heart, my soul"... etc. And I didn't like how he didn't let Meghan be strong on her own. He was always protecting her, and I get that, but when Meghan tried to step away from the protection and go out there and kill something, he would get all worked up about it.

I felt really sorry for Puck during this book.

One character that I really liked was Razor. He was really cute in a kind of I'm-a-rabid-puppy kind of way. He was always bouncing around and being chaotic, which I really liked.

I was crying, smiling, laughing, screaming (in my head), and shooting glares at names during the whole book. It was absolutely wonderful.

I finally made it through the third book in the Iron Fey series. For a while there it felt as though I would never make it! Since I had a copy of the ARC, I felt it my duty to read it. That said, here's the review.

The elements of book one that were worthwhile and made me hope for the rest of the series either ceased existing or became incredibly irritating through repetition. A perfect example of the former are the pack rats, who I found delightful in The Iron King. They show up only once in the subsequent books (in this book actually), but they get no lines and are mindlessly doing evil. No mention is made of their fate. Of the latter, Grimalkin is an excellent example. I loved him in the first book, because he's so cat-like and judgmental. Now I hate when he shows up. For one thing, there's the fact that every time he appears/disappears the surrounding characters say the same damn thing. Plus, he never does anything without washing his paw/tail or twitching his tail. He's a cat. I get it!

I also liked that Meghan tried when scary times happened. She sometimes had to be saved, but she also helped others when she could, either with wits or magic. In this book, she trains and gets stronger physically and magically. Despite this, she still relies on Puck and Ash to keep her safe. When she does try to act on her own, Ash returns to his "cold, unreachable Ice Prince" self. Her continued/forced reliance on others to save her despite being one of the most powerful characters is incredibly aggravating!

Another major issue I had with this series was that I shipped Meghan with the wrong guy. I knew it was coming from book one, but I can't help it. I don't like Ash. He's lame and overly controlling (see above). Puck isn't perfect by any means, but he is way more like a real person with a personality than Mr. Grumpy I-want-to-be-a-warrior-with-Darcy/Edward-moping-abilities. (Plus, Puck turns into a crow, which reminds me of Nawat in Trickster's Choice! ) Ash says things like "You are my heart, my life, my entire existence." Seriously? Is this a kind of love I should be envious of and aspire to? Ick. Cheesy to the nth degree.

Writers borrow from other writers. It happens and it's not plagiarism to be inspired, which is why people can write sequels to other people's books. Kagawa is trying to create her own unique fantasy world though, which is why I'm bothered by a character that talks (and sort of acts like) Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. The Gremlin named Razor speaks thusly after Grim (the cat) captures him: "Evil, evil, sneaky kitty! Bite your head off in your sleep, I will! Hang you by your toes and set you one fire! Burn, burn!" Replace 'sneaky kitty' with 'tricksy hobbitses' and you will definitely see what I mean.

On the plus side, there's another book in the series. If there's a midnight release party, I will be there with bells on! Ahem. In all seriousness, if you're interested in this series, do yourself a favor and quit after book one.

I. Loved. This. Book. Seriously. I sacrificed three nights of sleep to read it, and it was totally worth it! The entire Iron Fey series has been spectacular, this one is my most favorite so far. Loved, loved, loved it! It's chock full of romance, adventure, humor, and everything else good. Like cookies, rainbows, hugs and a certain Ice prince. If you have not started on this series yet, READ IT NOW.

Meghan and Ash have been exiled from Nevernever after they refused to give up their love for each other. But they are forced to go back when the False Iron King and his army threaten to take over all of Nevernever. They are joined again with Grim and Puck, who has also been exiled after he followed Meghan and Ash.

I enjoyed this book, but I felt bad for Puck throughout. The writing and the characters were wonderful. I think the reason I like this series so much is because of all the characters. A minor character I liked was Razor. He was so cute in a rabid puppy kind of way. Another I liked was that the Summer and the Winter Courts were working together, that was completely different from the previous two books. I am eagerly waiting for The Iron Knight, which is in Ash's viewpoint.

The intensity of this book was at an all time high. Your heart has to
be made of iron to not fall in love with this series. In The Iron
Daughter, Meghan, Ash, and Puck saved the specter but lost a friend to
battle. When they returned to Faery both Winter and Summer made them
choose to return to their court or be exiled if they chose to be
together. When we begin The Iron Queen Ash and Meghan both chose exile
than to be apart. [Ash I love you!] Meghan also discovers that the
memory she traded in The Iron King was important and her first mission
is to get it back. Ash is willing to do anything to make Meghan happy
that he even talks about marrying her someday, if thats what she
wishes. [Ash I love you so much!] Seriously these outbursts are what
happened as I was reading The Iron Queen.



With each minute that passes Faery is dying and the false Iron King is
hunting Meghan in the human world. Trust me when I say there is never a
dull moment. In the back of Meghans mind she knows that one day she
will have to kill the False King, but to be successful she might have to
sacrifice it all. Once Meghan realizes what she lost in her memory she
seeks refuge with Leanansidhe, Queen of the Exile. While there she
finds out that Puck disobeyed Oberon and went after Meghan so the team
is back together. Meghan spends her time getting to know someone from
her past and training with Ash for the day she will face the False King.
If I was Meghan I would have wanted to live in this part of the story
forever.



Winter and Summer come to realize that Meghan is their only hope to save
Faery and send for her to help save what is left of Faery. As before
Ash and Puck will not let her go alone and know that spending time in
the Iron Relm will kill them. There are intense battles, sacrifices,
broken hearts, and an ending I would never have guessed. I was crying
for hours after I finished this book. Trust me when I say this book
lives up to the hype. If you loved City of Glass, Mockingjay, Ink
Exchange, the battles in Lord of the Rings than this book is for you.
Just fair warning there will be intense sadness. Julie joins my top fey
authors along Maggie Stiefvater, Melissa Marr, and Holly Black. The
only reason this book did not get a 5 star is because I was so heart
broken by the ending.
