Sophia has always wanted a pet cat, but her parents have too much to do to take care of her and her sister. They don't believe they have time for cats. Thankfully, Sophia's friend Zara has cats she can love on. One evening, Sophia discovers a kitten hanging around her neighbor's cat. She's the most beautiful patchwork kitten and while she's skittish at first, she's sweet. When the neighbors move, Sophia is surprised to see the kitten still hanging around and knows she has to do something about it.
THE KITTEN NEXT DOOR is a heartwarming story about a stray kitten and a little girl who loves cats. We get to see the perspective from both the kitten when she's alone and the little girl named Sophia. With a misunderstanding about the owner, the kitten spends more days alone and it shows children the importance of lending a hand to those animals in need. I love how in the end, Sophia gets her dream come true.
Final Verdict: THE KITTEN NEXT DOOR is perfect for children aged six and up who love cats as much as my daughter and Sophia do. Beware because it made my daughter want a cat even more but I enjoyed watching her read a book that she could relate to. I'm allergic to cats so its unfortunate that we can't have one but I love that there are stories for her to live through for now.
