Queen Guenevere's lover, the peerless Lancelot du Lac, has departed for the continent in the hope that he might once again find solace there. The Lady who raised him offers him the chance to forget Guenevere, but he can no more do so than Queen Guenevere, ruling by Arthur's side as the threat of his sister Morgan le Fay grows ever greater, can bring herself to trust him. She is very jealous of Queen Morgause, who has her knight by her side and four sons, all of them knights themselves.

I was introduced to the author's Arthurian fiction by two friends, who recommended Isolde, Queen of the Western Isle to me last year. At the time I read it and loved it enough that I went back and read the first of the Guenevere books. I did not read the sequel for another year, however, a year in which my tastes in such books moved away from romance.

It was still a good book, though, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a version of the Arthur story with a good bit of magic, one that is based in legend and not history.
