I still remember how much I really was intrigued with the premise of a girl who feels 'echos' of the dead when I read the first book in this series, BODY FINDER. Even then I felt the writing was creepy/good with it's descriptions of Violet's ability to follow the traces of the dead.

I'm usually not a big fan of sequels but when I started reading THE LAST ECHO I was immediately drawn in with the writing. Let's just say Derting has a real talent for getting into the head of a psycho killer in such a way that it gives you nightmares. To me, that's a sign of a true storyteller!

Violet this time around now works with a paranormal team with abilities that are similar to hers. There's a 'girlfriend' collector on the loose and Violet is drawn in to find the dead. Each one has an echo which can be a distinct smell, sound, or image.

Not everyone likes Violet being involved in this group. Her best friend and now boyfriend Jay has a hard time with her doing this work as does her parents.

My favorite part of this series has to be the alternative POVs of the killers. These chapters are short but so powerful with insights into the minds of psychos. What is revealed is so chilling. Derting did her research!

Another creepy part had to be the gang member who is brought in for deaths of his girlfriend and two young children. The images of the constantly moving tats was so creepy but at the same time fascinating. As was how Derting was able to dig deep into the soul of a serial killer.

I also admit I really like Rafe, one of the others in Violet's team. He has his own dark secrets and every time Violet and him touch? It's actually causes sparks! You can't tell me this relationship won't go anywhere.

Suspenseful and gripping this paranormal thriller will have you up late turning the pages. The unique twist comes to a horrific climax that changes Violet. I'm hoping for another book as there's no way this series can be over!

A must read for BODY FINDER fans and those who love unique paranormal twists.
