Set in Morganville, Texas, Claire Danvers has just started university and is living in a horrible dormitory on campus. Constantly being bullied by cruel mean girls Claire attempts to escape by moving to a house off campus. But Claire's new roommates are not what they seem. The same can be said for everyone else in Morganville. Vampires rule the town in secret and they won't stand for anyone breaking their rules or snooping around.

Claire is disliked by her peers because she very smart meaning she advanced grades and is significantly younger while she is also from out of town. Claire is a good character, naive, but smart and brave. She must navigate the supernatural forces at play in her new home and find out who she can trust.

I like that Eve, one of Claire's roommates, is a goth. It lets people see that though people may dress differently they are still people. Eve is also very nice to Claire and looks out for her whenever she can. Claire's other housemates include Shane and Michael, two mysterious boys who also care for Claire. They are all quite protective of her because of her young age, intelligence and frankly her geek-ness. They are all like a nice little family that cooks, cleans and cares for each other even though they are quite different.

The vampires in this series are powerful and mysterious. I liked the mythology of this series

A quick read but really enjoyable! The characters are believable and the boys are just WOW. It seems a little more grown up to me then some young adult books I've read, which I love. The setting felt

real and seemed everyday life but with an awesome take on vampires. Where they aren't romantically sought after. They are the creatures that fill your nightmares.

So... Claire's enrolled in a college due to her academic achievements (she's something of a genius). She's 16, nearly 17, (which she LOVES to tell everyone, it reminds me of a five year old really). On her first day of school she already got herself on the bad side of the head mean girl, Morgan.

Claire decides she can't live in the dorms for fear Morgan and her friends will end up killing her so she goes looking for somewhere else to live. Upon finding the Glass House, she meets her roommates Shane (sexy), Michael (really sexy) and Eve.

Everything gets real complicated from there in Morganville and most people in the town are the creepy/insane side. Claire, soon comes to the realization that this town is full of vampires and with the help of her new roommates they will have to stick together to stay alive.

Also by the time you finish the first book, make sure you have the second one handy, the cliffhanger is epic!

Claire is sixteen years old, and starting her first year of post-secondary education in Morganville. After angering Monica, one of the popular girls in her college dorm, she finds herself battered, bruised, and desperate.

While going through advertisements for off-campus housing, she stumbles across the Glass House. Shane, Michael, and Eve are looking for a fourth roommate. They reluctantly allow her to stay, but only temporarily...at least, that was their plan.

Monica is out for revenge, and not only does she have her group of human admirers to assist her, but as Claire soon learns, she has connections with vampires as well. But the worst of it is yet to come; Claire will face shocking revelations, brutal attacks, and life-threatening betrayals.

I was pleasantly surprised by the first installment in The Morganville Vampires series, Glass Houses. The synopsis had me prepared for a stereotypical, potentially cliché YA novel, with brooding vampires and spontaneous love affairs.

While some of the vampires could be described as brooding, it wasn't a common trait amongst every single one of them. I appreciated that Rachel Caine gave each of the vampires their own unique personalities as opposed to the popular "I'm a self-loathing vampire" trope...it made them seem all the more believable.

As for the non-vampire characters in this book, I really grew to care about some and loathe others. They were realistic; they had their own strengths and beauty, yet they also had their flaws. The characters were diverse and I felt like they complimented each other well and really added to the story.

The plot and pacing were so incredibly refreshing, especially for a YA novel! Chapters didn't drag on and on, yet they didn't fly by either. I was hooked to the story, and to the mystery and danger Claire had to face throughout the book. As for the romantic aspect, I was greatly impressed. There was no "insta-love", and when characters did become interested in each other it was obvious why (and it wasn't just because of looks, money, or paranormal status). In other words, the romance was meaningful.

I recommend this to fans of vampire fiction and YA fiction, especially fans of Claudia Gray and Melissa de la Cruz.

Rachel Caine is an amazing writer. I can only wish for a fraction of her creativity! She has created a wonderful world of Vampires, and it gets better because it's located in Texas. This is a one of a kind storyline that never gets old, no matter how many books she writes. Glass Houses introduces you to some of the most amaizing characters I've had the pleasure of reading about.

This was a good start to a well written and additive supernatural  series. This is about Claire Danviers who just came to morganville but on her first day she was tormented by three rich spoiled popular girls especially Monica Morell. She had no place to go and Monica was after her she was hurt.Only hopewas to move out of the dorms and she headed to Glass house.Asif monica wasn't bad enough she learned some people in town were vampires. Only problem is, no one told Claire that campus was the one place she was really ever going to be safe. After all, the University is the only place that's 'off limits' to the vampires that live in Morganville.

This book wasn't like
the typical vampire book that I always read, where there's just a girl
who falls in love with a vampire, it was so much better. Normally the
first few chapters of book are always slow and painful to read, even if
it's a great book by the end, but this one started out fast paced and
full of nail-biting questions that I couldn't wait to find the answers
to. Every part of this book was entertaining and well thought out. It
moved at the right pace and kept piling on the suspense with each
turning page. I absolutely loved every aspect of this book. I also completely loved the characters. Claire,
Eve, Michael, and Shane are so lively, I can't believe they're just
characters. I feel like they could just jump off the page and be real
in a second. Claire is really independent, which almost got her killed several times, but I love her personality. She
also isn't afraid to stand up and talk back, even though it would have
been wise to stay silent, since Monica could kill her with out a second thought. I couldn't exactly relate to Claire since
she loves school and lives in a vampire-run town, but she was fun to
read about and I can't wait to see what other trouble she gets herself
into. Eve was also one of my favorite characters even though I'm not
into the goth thing. She was witty and I loved the bickering going on
between her and Shane. I think that pretty much says it all. Eve is hilarious and definitely enhances the story. I loved this book and I'm dying to
read the rest of this amazing series! This is another book that's going
on my Obsession List =D. If I ever have the time, I'm going to read
this book again, which is saying a lot since I rarely ever read books
more than once.
