The Mushroom Man is a gentle and heart-warming story of friendship.
Our main character never gets named, adding to the melancholy feel of the story. He is content to live his life with the mushrooms he cultivates, until he feels deep loneliness, then once again contentment.. maybe even true happiness.
I believe my child was too young to really grasp the meaning behind The Mushroom Man, and believe the target audience would be somewhere 10 and up.
The illustrations are subdue, but no less beautiful and they fit well with the story. My favorite would have to be the Mushroom Man and the his friend the mole enjoying a meal together.
