You know when you absolutely can't put a book down to save your life? When it completely invades your dreams at night? When you become totally swept away into another world? When you cry when it's finished? This book instantly hooks you and doesn't let you go! I knew this story was highly fantastical and imaginative, but I had no idea about the many depths of this story, like Bastain's dark side. I can honestly say that The Neverending Story is one of my top favorite books of all time.

Reader reviewed by Brendan Cowan

When I was eight years old I remember watching the movie based on the book The Neverending Story, over and over again, being enchanted by Bastians journey through a magical leatherbound book. Five years later, after reading the book itself, I never wanted to see the movie again. The movie was nothing compared to the original book.
When I was thirteen, I hated reading. I rarely did my reading response journals for school, and I would probably read about three books a year, not reaching my 25 book goal for school. After I got suspended for throwing a pencil at someone, I was put into a quiet room with nothing to do for five days. To make time fly, I started reading during my time in the room.
I first read old yeller, then an abriged version of Tom Sawyer. I caught an interest in reading at that time, but It certainly wouldnt have lasted if I havent come across The Neverending Story. I remember reading it both in school, and at home. No matter where I read the book, I was spellbound. It was Impossible to put the book down.
Reading this book was like walking through peoples dreams because of it being so beautifully written and planned out. Each word would paint a dreamlike picture and keep me reading. When I was done reading this book, I knew for a fact, that my life was changed forever. Simply because I read this book, I now read every single day, and I dream of becoming a published author (And a songwriter as well).
I have read many fantasy books, Yet I know almost for a fact that none of them are as half as good as this book. The german author, Michael Ende, clearly understood the concepts of fantasy, and how it connects into our lives, like no other person. This is a book for everyone, and for all ages. In fact I beleive adults may need this spellbinding fantasy as much as teenagers do. I guarantee that anybody who reads this book, will go on a journey like none other, and their lives will be changed like mine was.

The Neverending Story chronicles the story of Bastian Bathlazar Bux, an unpopular, bullied bookworm. As he tries to escape from his captors he finds himself in a bookstore. He feels drawn towards the book that the owner is reading so he takes it. His adventure begins. Reading the book, he discovers that he is inside the book. However soon he finds himself trapped in the book and he must find a way out...

This book was stunningly written, filled with action and excitement. The characters are well-developed and easy to relate to. Fantasy lovers must pick up this book.

I took this one because I watched an episode of the cartoon and it seemed pretty interesting to me.

Here I discovered an incredible world.
All begins with a Book that Bastian begins to read, then he literaly enters this book : he discovers an Ivory Tower in which dies a Little Empress, a brave warrior who's in charge to save the Magic World and such strange creatures as Tree-men and talking lions...

It is a book that pushes all the limits : all is possible. It can seem strange at the beggining and even displease, but for those who love fantasy and incredible tales, this one is a must to read.
