The Only Thing Worse Than Me Is You, was a book that completely engrossed me from the beginning. Trixie and Ben’s tense rivalry (that may be something more?), the perfect amount of fandom-culture references (meaning: a lot of references), and a friend group that ties everything all together- made this one of my favorite reads of the year.
Beginning on the first day of their senior year, Trixie is noticing her friend group dynamic changing. So when her best friend starts dating the best friend of her rival, Ben West, she’s not necessarily surprised. Until he starts to invade every aspect of her life.
Ben and Trixie’s relationship was easily the best aspect of the book, in my opinion. Their banter was funny, witty, and at times a bit harsh, but realistic. Their relationship and back and forth is what kept the book moving in the beginning, until the plot slowly began to develop. Add on supportive, sometimes pushy, but loving best friends and a friend group of genuine people & you have a perfect book.
The ranking of highest GPAs at Trixie’s school also played a major role in the book. Grades and school in general were given a lot of attention, which I really liked. There were little details about their assignments (which even I couldn’t understand), their classes, and the massive amounts of time they studied for, that made this book really come to life. Not to mention, the references to Doctor Who, Supernatural, Star Wars, and more! The book really mentioned a lot of popular fandoms that I think so many people will enjoy.

So overall, The Only Thing Worse Than Me Is You was a brilliant, fast-paced book with a slow-burning romance and great friendships to tie it all together. It also has twists and surprises that no one will see coming, and that will make you want to pick up the book up again as soon as your finished (just like I did).

Good Points
The writing will make you feel as though you ARE the main character. Be prepared to feel everything that Trixie does!
