The Outsiders Book Review Peter Thebest
The book is fifty years old and it's still famous.
S.E Hinten wrote this book when she was only seventeen years old. The amazing thing about this book is that it is fifty years old and it is still being read in schools, libraries. The book is really famous.
S.E Hinton is actually a woman. S.E Hinton wrote the book under a male name because in the 1950`s books written by men where read much more then the books written by women. The Outsiders book is S.E Hintons first book. She wrote it when she was only seventeen which is an amazing performance for an author this young.
The Outsiders is realistic fiction it is about teenagers from fourteen to eighteen years old. The book is written in first person. The book is narrated by the mane character Ponyboy. In the book Ponyboy talks about his life being a Greaser.
My first opinion when I started reading this book was that this is the book I like. The book hooked me in right when I started reading the book. I was always exited when we read the book in class some times I even skipped ahead because the story is so tense and action packed.
The story takes place in a small city about in the 1950`s. The city has two main gangs that hate each other. The two gangs are called The Socs and The Greasers. The Greasers is a gang of Juvenal delinquents. Darry is the leader of the Greasers he is the strongest one and the only Greaser that has short hair. Darry has two brothers they are called Ponyboy and Sodapop. Pony boy is the youngest gang member he has long greasy hair and fights quit good for his age. Sodapop is usually called Soda he is the most handsome gang member he has greasy hair but is always surrounded by girls hes also a good brother and always sticks up for Ponyboy. Dray soda and Ponyboy live alone because their parents died in a car accident. Darry takes care of the whole family and he goes to work. All of them are in the Greasers gang and they have friends named Dally, Twobit, Johnny Johnny is the most sensitive person I the gang but he turns out to be a murderer. Dally is a strong he is considered really dangerous he lives a life of vandalism just for the fun of it and has a week spot for Johnny. The greasers live a normal life fighting of the socs having rumbles. Every thing would change in just one night. Darry hits Ponyboy. Ponyboy gets upset and runs away from home on the way he gets Johnny. The socs come to beat them up but Johnny does something that he would be regretting his hole life. Ponyboy and Johnny ran a way and hid in an old church that dally told them about. Meanwhile darry and soda are worrying about them. They go to have lunch and come back to the church and find out that it is on fire and that some kids are inside. Ponyboy and Johnny decide to go save the children from a burning church but it would come with consequences Johnny ends up with a broken back and the police catch them but they are charged of self defence. Ponyboy and Johnny turn famous. People want to put Ponyboy and Soda in an orpinage but the jury lets them stay together.
The book is really action packed and is really good but it has some really hard words to understand. I would recommend it to teenagers and middle scholars. I think the book is more for boys then for girls because the book is about gang which fights allot and people die. In this book the author wants you to know that everyone has problems even the rich and poor and you can find out that through fighting isnt the way to solve problems.
