This book does everything right. The voice of Ricky comes through loud and clear. I totally got the mom. And the Pitcher is such a realistic character that I had to make sure this is a work of fiction.

If you want to read a great story about overcoming all odds to get your dream then this book is for you.

Good Points

A Mexican American boy who has no money but big dreams and a broken down World Series Pitcher who agrees to coach him to make the highschool team. This is the Karate Kid of our age with a cross cultural reference to immigration reform as he is a "dream kid" and his mother is facing deportation. Highly enjoyable.
