Mia's life would just be perfect (and she would be self-actualized) if her boyfriend Michael would just ask her to the prom. With less than two weeks to go until the big night, he hasn't said a word about the prom.
There are other issues in Mia's life, like the fact that her father is going to make her spend the summer in Genovia far away from Michael and her mother's pregnancy makes Mia learn a little more than she ever wanted to know about her mother's bladder.
But the worst is yet to come. At Mia's fifteenth birthday party, her Grandmère brings her scary, practically hairless pet dog Rommel. He makes a break for freedom and winds up causing a busboy to overturn an entire tray of food over Grandmère. Even though it is Rommels fault, the restaurant fires Jangbu.
Lilly, Mias best friend (I have to admit here that I like Lilly less and less in each book Mia needs a new best friend, one that doesnt put her down all the time) takes up Jangbus cause like she has taken up many others. Ultimately, the incident turns into a huge nightmare as workers all over the city strike in support and Lilly dumps her longtime boyfriend Boris for Jangbu (who, it turns out, is a young and handsome Sherpa).
The worst horror? The prom gets canceled when the workers go on strike. Now Mia has no chance...or does she?
It is Grandmère that ultimately saves the day, along with some quick thinking by Mia. Ill leave how and why to be a surprise, as there are some very funny scenes involved in the resolution of the dilemma. Lets just say that if you havent watched old John Hughes films like Pretty in Pink, you really should.
Other things in store for readers: a game of seven minutes in heaven gone awry, the perfect prom dress, and Mia plays nurse in an emergency. This addition to the series is a ton of fun. Curl up with a bucket of popcorn and watch the story unfold.
