The Princess Trap

It’s been a year since Princess Jenna learned that she was royalty and had her world turned upside down. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been an easy transition, due to the snobby students at her boarding school, the constant media attention, and lots of political drama. The paparazzi have published unflattering photos of her, giving her the nickname, “Pizza Princess” and the government’s rationing has made the royal family unpopular. Jenna wishes she could return to her simple life with her best friend, Bea. The only solution? Running away.

I did not read the first book in the series, THE PRINCESS PLOT, yet was able to easily follow along with the story. I found the beginning of the book to be a bit slow, and wonder if it is because I was not already connected to the characters. Author Kirsten Boie makes Jenna’s predicaments relatable, particularly her relationship with Jonas. Everyone has felt the way Jenna feels when her heart is broken: “Lovesick. What a silly word for such a terrible, overwhelming pain.” While I wish they communicated more honestly, I liked Jenna and Jonas’ sweet relationship.

It’s difficult not to compare this book to Meg Cabot’s The Princess Diaries. I prefer that series to this one, yet know that fans of princess stories will devour this. I recommend reading THE PRINCESS PLOT before diving into THE PRINCESS TRAP.
