The Rule of Many is an action-packed sequel to “The Rule of One” written by Ashley and Leslie Saunders, twin sisters who hail from the suburbs of Dallas, Texas and who have done it again. The Rule of Many gives you both exciting adventures and those tender heartfelt moments needed to create relationships between you and the characters in the book. Mira and Ava both evolved beyond being simply each other’s twin. Coming into their own, they recognized they are two distinctive and powerful individuals.
The entire book keeps readers on the edge of their seat with descriptive writing, allowing you to paint a visual picture in your mind of what is happening in each scene. Combine this with alternating chapters written from the other character’s point of view giving readers different perspectives and breaking up the conversation between Mira and Ava, and it gives the book depth and shows creativity. Owen is particularly funny if you like sarcastic humor, and he is loyal to Rayla, regardless of what was happening in the story line. The story of Zee finding new hope and purpose within resistance gives us all hope for a new beginning.
The story takes place when a one-child law is ruthlessly enforced by Roth, the Governor of Texas and in a time when Category 6 hurricanes exist, sweeping away the futures of generations to come. With the current state of our country and the planet, the story line presented by the Saunders is a scary and believable mix of recent technological advances coupled with the possibility of an environmental collapse of the world we currently know. These situations could easily come to fruition during our lifetime, making the storyline even more believable.
It is wonderful to have a sequel that builds upon itself and is a great addition to the first book. It will be great to see what the Saunders sisters have in store for a third book. If you like a book focused on revolutions and resistances, this is the series for you.
NOTE: I received a copy of this book from YA Books Central. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
