The story is very unique, and never ceases to amaze within the bounds of fantasy. But a compelling aspect of the story is the special relationship that develops between a deformed and normal individual from vastly different cultures through the sharing of shocking experiences that test their willingness to grow beyond what they thought possible. And unlike many in this genre, emotions are open and honest, not subverted to make the fantasy aspect of the story the only relevant purpose of the book.
Good Points
1) Great story written in three sections, or "books", that kept me wanting to read more, pulling me along to see what happens next.

2) After completing the book, I realized there is an underlying theme about friendship, and how individuals, vastly different physically and culturally, can become close when sharing experiences that test them deeply.
