This book was a bit long. But don't be discouraged! It's got an interesting and engaging plot that is enjoyable.

Nicholas Flamel, Scatty, Sophie and Josh have just arrived in Paris. But not on vacation. Not very long ago, Sophie and Josh were two normal twins. But now they have discovered that they are the twins of legend, with pure gold and silver auras. Now they are running around Paris/America/the world trying to find an Elder to Awaken Josh's powers and further train Sophie.

Josh has doubts about Nicholas' trustworthiness though. He feels that Nicholas keeps putting them in danger. And he is lonely... and jealous. For the first time ever, he feels like there is a wall between him and his twin, and he will do anything to demolish that wall... even listen to the evil guy: John Dee and his colleague, Niccolò Machiavelli. As both Dee and Flamel continue to try and get Josh to be on their side, Josh starts to lose faith in his few protectors... and his doubt grows stronger.

Michael Scott kind of flipped between characters without warning. Like, one moment Sophie would be thinking about how tired she is, or something, then suddenly in the middle of the chapter we would be thinking with Josh, then we would be with Nicholas, then with Dee and Machiavelli... Know what I mean?

Nevertheless, this was an excellent book and I am really looking forward to reading the next one. I recommend it to people younger than 14, if they are ready to tackle a 464 page book.

I reckon this book was way too long than what it should of been. Michael Scott has obviously stretched the book so the story was told over way to many pages. The details were dragged out to much, boring me a lot more than it should have. I feel that this would of made it easier to read, as the younger kids would not of been as daunted as much and the older kids would think that it would be worth to read it as it would be a nice length and enjoyable.

I think that the style of writing was a bit strange, as instead of focusing on one character per chapter, it focused on all of them at once. Like when Sophie was thinking about how Nicholas looked like and how he was aging, it would suddenly switch to Nicholas thinking about the past or something. I think that the author should of focused on the one character on each chapter so it would not confuse the readers.

I reckon that this book had an excellent plot, and it is only getting better and better since the Alchemyst, and it gets even more deeper. With more mysteries and characters, including Niccolo Machiavelli, who was an immortal human on the Dark Elder side. But I think that the author should of gone a bit deeper with everyone's thoughts, as it was only looking at the surface.

I think that this book was an excellent idea, and it builds an amazing story of the basis of gods and goddess, both known and unknown, worshipped and created. This book is recommended by me to everyone between the ages 8-14, who will give up their time to read this amazing book.

The Magician by Michael Scott
5 out of 5 stars

The Magician Book Two in the The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott was a great, fast-paced book.

Nicholas, Scatty, and the twins, Josh and Sophie, have just arrived in Paris, France. But this is no vacation. Two days prior they were normal fifteen year old teenagers whose biggest problem was were to get a job. But now Sophie has Awakened and become even a bigger target to the Elders. While the twins are being chased around the city, Joshs strong doubts about Flamels trustworthiness, grows greater. His decision making starts to cloud when a new feeling of loneliness fill him. Not only is he being chased my powerful, magical people, he feels a wall grow in between him and his sister, Sophie. As motives are uncovered and more secrets gather, the twins start to doubt and lose faith in the few protectors they have.

The Magician was a riveting read. The chapter, though fill back and forth between different side stories and the main plot, ran smoothly. It was easy to stay interested and glued to the book. For any other book, five hundred pages would feel like forever, but for this book it went quickly. Its fast-paced storyline and each perfectly ended chapter, made you take deep breath and didnt force you but drew you into the next chapter.

Michael Scott wove a creative and intriguing world in The Magician that you couldnt help but be pulled into.
