As I try to incorporate more nonfiction into my classroom library, I am trying to find a wide range of texts to share with my students. Young Olympic hopefuls and fans of the event will enjoy A PASSION FOR VICTORY.
Although it includes much of the history of the Olympics which can be found elsewhere, there is some interesting and unique information in the "Athletic Politics" section. Detailing the 1936 games, with fascinating quotes from Jesse Owens, this is the chapter I will be using in my lessons.
At times it is a bit too much like a textbook for the casual reader, but that is why it will be a useful addition to my classroom library!
