The Summoning (The Darkest Powers 1)
User reviews
This book was very good and entertaining. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I read it in two days. I love the character Chole, and Simon. I hope their relationship grows, but i have this wierd feeling she's going to end up with Derick! Yikes! But i would strongly recommend this book to anyone!
Overall, I thought The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong was really good. I have read it twice now, and I really want The Awakening, the sequel. It sounds really good! So basically, The Summoning is about a necrophiliac named Chloe who is told she is a schizophrenic. She is sent to a special group home in Buffalo, NY, where she receives meds and counseling for her "disease". She joins forces with a bunch of other supernaturals, and... well... read the book yourself and find out. You won't regret it, I promise! :-P
Okay, so The Summoning. Well, I think there's only one thing I can say about this book: LOVED IT. Seriously, the second I finished this book I went straight online to see when I could get my hands on the second book. It was that good.
Basically, we start of with Chloe Saunders, the main character. Now Chloe is such a developed character, she's shy yet fierce, and she'll fight for what she wants. So undoubtedly, I loved her.
Now because she's seen a ghost...or two, she's thrown into the Lyle House, a house for problematic kids. So, like any sane person, she was kind of freaked out to be stuck in a house with crazy kids, considering the fact that she's not crazy. The reason she's in here is because she's been diagnosed as a Schizophrenic.
Being a Schizophrenic would be a pretty easy resolution for seeing ghosts right? But Chloe hesitates to believe she really is a Schizo. So she digs deeper into the Lyle house and tries to find out what's really happening her at the crazy place. And while she's doing her investigating she learns a thing or two about her house mates, and from the looks of it they aren't exactly "crazy" either.
If you are a paranormal fan, check out this book, it is amazing! Loved it, Loved it, Loved it!
Whoo-hoo for necromaning necromancers! (Hey is necromancing even a word?)
Chloe Saunders wanted to be NORMAL. But after seeing ghosts and being sent to a group home for the "crazy kids" , becoming normal just isn't possible anymore. Maybe controlling her powers to raise the dead and having a love life is still in the range worth reaching, though. Wizards, werewolves, necromancers(people who talk to ghosts), potential demons, excitement, adventure, and romance are in store for you.
- Second best YA ghost story I have read. (check out Project 17, if you would, it is great!)
- I love the characters.
Let me just say that I love Derek even though he's pimply. Derek is smart, caring and sweet (sometimes) and just plain awesome. The mystery that is presented in The Summoning is really cool. I can't figure it out and everything is unexpected. Even the characters have very distinct and well crafted personalities. Don't you just love people in a mental home? Great, great times. I absolutely loves when Tori freaks out on Chloe! Being bored wasn't even an option while reading The Summoning. How could you be when something is always popping up. Be it a ghost or a crazy "nurse". I seriously can NOT wait untill I can read The Awakening, which is the next book. My friend told me The Summoning was good, but not this good! Overall I think that The Summoning is a very interesting and alluring read for everyone. So go out and get yourself a copy!
I got my first glimpse of The Summoning from WORD for Teens before I
even made my blog. I remember thinking it had a beautiful cover and the
name was very intriguing. Unfortunately I completely forgot about it
(shame on me!) and by the time I remembered I wanted to read it all of
my money was stolen and I could no longer buy new books. I finally got
a chance to read The Summoning when I found out my local library
carried it. I am extremely fortunate to have such a stocked library so
close to home. I'm talking two miles tops.
As many of you know
from my lack of posts lately, I had been in a bit of a reading rut. I
didn't touch a book in ten whole days! Finally I decided to give up the
book I was reading and try The Summoning. WOW! What an addicting book.
Goodbye reading rut, hello The Summoning!
The Summoning is a
must read. Chloe's character is much different than most main
characters. She is into screen writing and directing which isn't
something I have seen in a book before. Armstrong really did her
research.
Every time I felt like I could tell what would come
next, Armstrong surprised me. I never ever expected there to be more
supernatural elements in this book that ghosts and boy was I wrong.
Wow!
I can't even begin to explain the brilliance of the plot line. There
are so many original twists, it is as far from a cliche sci-fi as you
can get. Speaking of twists, I CAN'T BELIEVE THE ENDING!
Well obviously I loved the book and I am sooooo excited for The Awakening!
5/5
Kelley Armstrong starts this new series off with a bang! Chloe Saunders can see dead people! She is sent to live in a home for troubled teens. The teens that live in the home with her are more than what meets the eye. This is a fast paced novel with a few twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat! My only complaint is that then ending is such a cliff hanger, I was a little disappointed! Will I read the second in the series? MOST CERTAINLY! I suggest this read for 12 yrs. and up.
At the age of 15, Chloe Saunders is sent to a place for crazy people. Why? Because she sees dead people. No, seriously. Everything seems normal, or at least as normal as you get when everyone there is considered crazy, until her roommate is sent to the hospitable.
An addicting book from start to finish. Kelly Armstrong writes the characters so beautifully that I even hated some of the characters because of how well she's written them, and vice versa of how well I grew fond of some. She create an atmosphere where you can hate someone in the very beginning but love them in the end even if you don't want to.
Between a necromancer, a poltergeist, a sorcerer, a half-demon, and a werewolf, you've got your complete circle of magical beings. Everything is well explained about them so I definitely did not feel lost. Another good point since I have read books that never explains things and I'm constantly lost.
With a mixture of action, adventure, fantasy and a hope-to-be soon romance, the Summoning is a must have book for every YA reader. A surprise twist of fate ends the book at a cliffhanger so I'm eagerly waiting for the sequel, the Awakening!
