An intriguing story filled with twists upon twists leaving the reader in the dark about what would happen next.

The story:
The Syndicate takes place in the future, post World War III. It's a future where time-travel has been discovered and outlawed, with the exception of the syndicates who are procurers of historical objects. These people are experts at blending in to various times and places to minimize the ripples caused by their appearance in times that aren't their own.
A long mission in Paris of the 1920s should have been simple. It should have been fun. The item they were after should have been theirs for the taking. Stassi and Gaige were experienced and good at what they did. But Stassi had a mission of her own. She wanted answers. Neither of them counted on the risks they'd be asked to take or that this time, getting back to their own time would be that much harder.
What I liked:
I love time travel and this book puts a very unique spin on an old device. The world that has been created is rich and fascinating, with vibrant characters. It blends the people and objects of the future incredibly well with the people and objects of the past. The story is seamless and the writing is fantastic. I also loved the relationship between the two main characters.
What was just okay:
Pace. The book started out with an exciting action sequence, only to slow into a sluggish story that left me anxious to be wowed. I didn't only want to be interested. If the mystery had unfolded more quickly, there would have been nothing wrong with the book. I wanted to want to read it in one sitting, but it took me quite a bit of time.
The verdict:
A well-crafted world and fantastic writing make The Syndicate a book for all young adult loving readers to watch out for.
