A flash of white light . . . and then . . . nothing. When sixteen-year-old Kyra Agnew wakes up behind a Dumpster at the Gas ’n’ Sip, she has no memory of how she got there. With a terrible headache and a major case of déjà vu, she heads home only to discover that five years have passed . . . yet she hasn’t aged a day. Everything else about Kyra’s old life is different. Her parents are divorced, her boyfriend, Austin, is in college and dating her best friend, and her dad has changed from an uptight neat-freak to a drunken conspiracy theorist who blames her five-year disappearance on little green men. Confused and lost, Kyra isn’t sure how to move forward unless she uncovers the truth. With Austin gone, she turns to Tyler, Austin’s annoying kid brother, who is now seventeen and who she has a sudden undeniable attraction to. As Tyler and Kyra retrace her steps from the fateful night of her disappearance, they discover strange phenomena that no one can explain, and they begin to wonder if Kyra’s father is not as crazy as he seems. There are others like her who have been taken . . . and returned. Kyra races to find an explanation and reclaim the life she once had, but what if the life she wants back is not her own?

I'm a huge fan of Kimberly Derting's THE PLEDGE series and was really excited to be able to read her latest novel.

Mysterious and suspenseful, this novel shows us sixteen-year-old Kyra waking up and finding out she's lost five years. This is more than a Sleepy Hollow type of story as Kyra hasn't changed at all. Things that she has love and even her family seem off somehow. Here's when the creepy factor comes in. A stranger appears at her home, telling her he can help but something isn't right. Add one very cute brother of a former boyfriend and another guy who seems to everywhere. Secrets will be revealed but will Kyra be able to accept what comes with the truth including losing those she loves once again?

What worked: I really loved this story! I was up till early in the morning as I couldn't put this book down! I've been loving alien stories with an unique twist. This one fits that bill. I love how the secret surrounding Kyra is revealed slowly. There are some subtle hints that are woven throughout the story until the big revelation. But even then there are more hints that there might in fact be more to Kyra's story. Got to love that!

Another plus: This isn't a parallel universe but rather a lot of unanswered questions that have Kyra trying to make sense of her new life. I felt for her when she found out that Austin, her boyfriend, hadn't waited around for her(in his defense, after five years, it would be hard not to think a loved one might have died but still...). And the attraction between Kyra and Tyler, Austin's kid brother, is very plausible and hot. Derting does a great job of showing this without it being awkward considering he now is the same age Kyra was when she went missing but since she didn't age I brought it! And man, these scenes are hot!

There's lots of twists and turns as Kyra tries to find out the 'truth' behind what had happened along with some conspiracy theories that might in fact have some truth behind them. The cliffhanging ending suggests a sequel. Well, there better be as I want to know what happens next! No, I won't post spoilers but I will suggest that you read this amazing story to find out what I mean.

Action-packed suspense that takes readers on an awesome ride. Once again Derting has a winner!
