What I loved about reading this book was the realness and the real hope. It would be so good if we could all find redemption in the bad experiences of life, and fine one good person to help us. Emie chooses well even when she doesn't choose out loud.
Good Points
Emie is no stranger to abuse, even at age 14. When you are poor, these things can happen a lot easier than when you can afford protection and you get healthy, well-adjusted parents to guide you. Emie's courage when she is tried during the Sheriff's gamble on church grounds is my favorite passage.
