As a former first grade teacher, I loved sharing pop-up books with my students. My students loved them as much as I did! I taught during more than a few presidential elections. THE WHITE HOUSE: A POP-UP of OUR NATION'S HOME would have been perfect to share with my students!

What worked: The pop-ups give those who haven't visited the White House a glimpse of not only some of the rooms inside our nation's capital but some history behind it. I loved how you can open up and see such things as the East Room; Lincoln's study; the Rose Garden; and the Oval Office. **Loved the added touch of a Secret Service officer on the side.

Included is a brief history of the White House that are short enough to still engage younger students without being too much.

The only thing that I do feel does take readers out is the poem that is woven throughout the book. As an educator? I'd suggest first sharing the book and the bits of history. Then, go back and read the poem in it's entirety. Otherwise, I think students would be too fascinated with just the pop-ups and not 'hear' the poem.

A fun addition to any educator's collection. Perfect for the upcoming presidential election and for readers to get a glimpse of not only some key rooms in the White House but learn some history too.
Good Points
1. Great pop-up book of the White House
2. Perfect for primary elementary school classes especially with upcoming presidential election
