I read this book years ago and it touched my heart. I will never forget the story of this
little boy and the things that he had to endure in his life. Everyone should read his story.
It made me believe that you can do anything that your heart desires.
God bless Jennining M Burch

This novel was absolutely heart wrenching and unbelievably captivating. I'm usually not htat into autobiographies and the lot, but this book is a five star. If I could, I would give it twenty stars. As a high school student, this novel really raised my awareness of some of the not so nice things that happen to children. If I were to be in Jennings' situation throughout the abuse and numerous homes, I certaintly would not have been able to keep the great faith and sweetness Jennings Burch had.

Yes, just like Jennings, i have a weird first name.  But anyway, this is the best book ever so far!  I cried at the end when Mark died...he was my favorite character, along with Jerome.  This is a good book!  Hard to believe it is true!!!  I feel so bad for you, Jennings!!  :'(
In memory of Mark,
Zing

I had to read this book for school and completely fell in love with it. Yes, it is sad but amazing. Truly the best book i've ever read and my favorite book so far. Once you pick it up you cant put it down. It's a sad story about a boy going to different foster homes, very sad but absolutely amazing. I dont know what else to say, but to get this book right away. I'm sure you won't be disappointed! on a scale of one to ten its a 100.

Imagine being dropped off at an orphanage because your mother is unable to care for you. Unloving and cold Nuns barely feed you and the clothes on your back are the only clothes you will ever wear. You are called by your bed number and the stuffed animals are not yours to keep. You are only allowed to snuggle them at night and then are to be returned to the locked cabinet. Sadly, this is a true account.

omg this is the best book i have ever read, i can read it over and over again, i love it so much, it is so sad, and it is a true story, which makes it even more sad.
if i had to read one book for the rest of my life, im pretty sure it would be this one, and i am not the biggest reading fan, so athis had to be a great book, i cried a lot during the book, so did my friends, but some, when i cried looked at me like you are really odd, well i dont care, i love this book so much, i would cry if i wanted to, after i finished reading the book, i wanted to read more, but i couldn't, Jennings Burch started to write anothe book, but he never finished it, and i heard he got married to stacy, but me and my friend looked her up, and they say she is dead, i almost cried, i highly recomend to book, i am pretty sure, it will be the best book you have ever read, thank you for reading this, good by- sophie- p.s. YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK, IT IS THE BEST!!!

I am in the ninth grade at Cleveland High School. We were given an assignment to pick a novel, read it, and answer questions about it. I picked 'They Cage the Animals at Night'. I read it in 3 days. I couldn't put it down. I laughed. I cried. I felt what he felt. The list could go on forever. I want to thank Jennings Michael Burch for writing what you went through. I am so sorry for what you went through.
